Governor
Babatunde Raji Fashola and the All Progressive Congress (APC)
gubernatorial candidate in Lagos, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode are expected to
grace the final ceremony of the second edition of Ethnic Unity Cup
Championship which will hold at the Navy playground, Ajegunle, Apapa on
Thursday.
The
final of the tournament which kicked off early this month will be
played between Team Isoko and Team Ijaw by 3:30p.m, while the third
place match between Team Isale Eko and Tean Ukwuani at 12:30p.m. Team
Isoko had in the semi final match played Tuesday beat Team Isale Eko
1-0, while Team Ijaw defeated Team Ukwuani 2-0.
Chief
Coordinator of the tournament, Anthony Ikhator said the final ceremony
expected to be colourful with side attractions from Ogele Band and a
popular comedian to entertain Governor Fashola and Ambode, who will be
presented with souvenirs by the organisers.
“We
want to thank the Lagos State Government for the support since the
first edition and we believe that our incoming Governor would see the
need to continue with this innovation that keeps people of different
ethnic group together. The most interesting thing about this tournament
is that coaches of each team came to the field of play with the attires
of their ethnic group. There is no differentiation, we are all one,”
Ekhator said.
According
to Principal Coordinator of the completion, Enebeli Matthias, awards of
recognition will be given to the Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best
Midfielder, Highest Goal Scorer and Best Coach of the tournament
Gold,
Silver and Bronze trophies with handsome prize monies will be won by
the overall winners, first and second runners up respectively, while
participatory prize will be given to the fourth place.
Matthias
commended all the teams that took part in the competition, which was
organised to foster mutual relationship between the ethnic groups in
Lagos State, adding that the organisers really appreciate the spirit of
sportsmanship exhibit by the players and their fans.
