Arrangements have been concluded for first media tennis exhibition game as part of the ongoing 15th Lagos Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.
According to the Tournament Director, Prince Wale Oladunjoye, the media tennis tournament will be an annual even along the Governor's Cup.
He stated that this initiative is part of efforts to encourage media
professionals to play tennis as a form of recreation and create a window
to add glamour to the reportage of the Governor's Cup proper as well.
The media tennis tourney is scheduled between 9am an 11am on the final day of the Lagos Governor's Cup, Saturday, December 19, 2015, while the presentation of prizes to the winners will hold during the closing ceremonies the same day.
The exhibition game will involve some sports journalists before the men's singles final to entertain the Lagos State governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode and other guests.
Already, some corporate organisations and individuals have pledged support for the media tennis tournament.
Meanwhile, ex-international and celebrated sports columnist, Chief Segun Odegbami (MON); sports analyst and presenter, Mr Ejiro Omonode; Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Mr Fred Edoreh; Group Sports Editor of the Nigerian Tribune, Mr Ganiyu Salman and Mr Ifeanyi Ibeh of the New Telegraph sports desk, are among the players listed for the tournament.
Effort to get ex-international, Austin 'Jay Jay' Okocha and the current Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh to make special appearance at the media tourney is underway.
