Former Super Eagles ace player, Victor Nosa Ikpeba, has called on the Nigeria Fotball Federation, NFF, to extend the contract of the newly employed Super Eagles technical adviser, Lars Largerback, in a bid to regenerate the beyond the FIFA Wolrd Cup in South Africa.
The former Prince of Monaco, said the contract which the Swede born coach signed with NFF might not breed positive result as the time to prepare for the soccer mundial in South Africa was to short for a serious team willing to make impact at the World Cup.
The former African Football of the Year, said there was no reason why the NFF should terminate Largerback contract if he takes Nigeria beyond the group stage because there is to regenerate the Super Eagles.
Ikpeba, said Largerback was well endowed on modern techniques of coaching and being a World Cup veteran would be an advantage to take the Super Eagles that has quality football players who are still relevant to the team despite their age beyond the group stage.
He said the quest of Largerback to search for quality Nigerian football players to fortify the team was in good light as he believed that players who are very active at the respective clubsides in Europe and beyond should be given an opportunity to lac boot for Nigeria unlike the situation where players who are regular placed on the bench top the list first eleven players for crucial matches.
He said the world has embraced modern football and its only a country which does not want to comply with modern trend in footballing would keep to players who could not command regular jersies at their respective clubsides.
He said Nigerian home based players who are playing consistently in Premier League should be given opportunity to have a place in the Super Eagles as some of them could march up with their contemporaries from Europe.
On the number of assistant coaches to work with Largerback, Ikpeba, hoped that the large number of assitant coaches would not create problems for the Swede coach who had informed the NFF of his intension to select a team of seasoned coaches to assist him to achieve better result at the soccer mundial.
