Nigeria Lost Hosting To Cote d' Ivoire

FIBA – Africa : Côte d’Ivoire to host Afrobasket 2011
Nigeria Basketball Federation has lost the hosting right to Côte d’Ivoire as FIBA officially named CoteD' Ivoire as the country to host the 26th edition of 2011 FIBA Africa Nations Championship for men.
The decision has been taken during the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee held on 17th March 2010 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar and Nigeria applied to host Afrobasket 2011.
FIBA Africa had four meetings to study all the bidding files where each candidate exposed its potentials and qualities.
Côte d’Ivoire will host for the second time the event after hosted the 13th edition in 1985. However, a deadline has been fixed by the end of June 2010 to for the starting of the building works of the new playing arena and the launched of the activities relating to the event if not Côte d’Ivoire will be replaced by Madagascar.
The previous edition of Afrobasket has been played in Libya in Agust 2009 and wom by Angola while Côte d’Ivoire and Tunisia ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively.
