
Ibeju/Lekki Local Government has taken a giant leap over other contenders in the 2010 Lagos State Sports Festival tagged, ‘IBILE 2010 FESTIVAL’ with 19 gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze medals for a total medal haul of 45.
In second place is Ikosi/Isheri Local Council Development Area with more medal haul of 46 but short of one gold medal of 18 as against 19 for Ibeju/Lekki, Ikosi/Isheri LCDA has accumulated a total of 14 silver and 14 bronze medals. Followed in third place is Ejigbo Local Council Development Area with 8 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronze medals.
Fourth on the medal table is Itire/Ikate LCDA with 7 Gold, 6 Silver and 12 Bronze medals while Yaba LCDA occupies the fifth position with 6 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.
Surulere Local Government; Oto/Awori LCDA; Somolu; Lagos Island East and Lagos Mainland occupies the sixth, sevent, eighth, nineth and tenth positions respectively just as fourteen other LGs and LCDAs have won for themselves silver and bronze medals leaving thirty-four others without a medal.
Chairman of Ikosi/Isheri LCDA, Hon. Kunle Soname is optimistic that his council will come out top at the end of the festival on Friday.
The Ikosi/Isheri LCDA Chairman based his confidence on some yet to be concluded event where his council has some comparative advantage.
While speaking with Sportsweight.blogspot.com, the council boss says he is delighted with the performance of Ikosi/Isheri LCDA athletes in the IBILE 2010 Sports Festival and promised to continue to support the athletes to excel in their chosen career.
Soname is also confident that the Ikosi/Isheri LCDA U20 football team will make the cut for a place in the Premier League of the Lagos Junior Football League starting next month across the Centre of Excellence.
He gave kudos to the Lagos State Ministry of Sports, Youth and Social Development under the leadership of Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele, the Lagos State Sports Council under Hon. Agboola Dabiri for consolidating on the sports drive of the state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN).
