The Lagos State government has earmarked a huge sum of One billion naira as take off grant for the running of the Lagos Junior- League which kick off sixth of May 2010.
The Lagos Junior League, according to the honourable commissioner for Youth and Sports, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele who was speaking at the official launching of the Lagos State Football and other Sports Supporters Club at the Teslim Balogun Stadium will commence with a play-off among all 57 Local Governments and Local Community Development Area,LCDA.
Adeniji- Adele, informed that the Junior-League primarily designed for young talents under twenty years would enable local governments and LCDA have their teams as its being done in the English premier league.
Also, the commissioner who enjoined the members of the supporters club to be transparent in the running of the affairs of the club, said the J-League board was in talks with various corporate bodies for sponsorship but that one billion naira have been contributed for the J-League to take off as scheduled.
He explained that each local government and LCDA would engage each other in the play off after which some teams would get promotion to the Premier league while others would be at the division one and subsequently some would be promoted and some relegated as it is practised in the national league.
According to him, t he J-League would help in the grassroot sports development as all the matches would be played at Campos Mini Stadium, Teslim Balogun Stadium and Agege Stadium.
