Nigeria's Olympiad, Henry Amike, has been elected as the new President of Nigeria Olympia Association in an election which took place on Thursday at the Media centre of the National Stadium, Surulere.
The election which was witnessed by officials of the Nigeria Olympic Committee saw Henry Amike defeating the former Association's President,Smart Akraka.
Former Nigeria's Super Eagles International,Henry Nwosu, was elected as the first Vice President as Falilat Ogunkoya Omotayo was the second Vice President.
The post of Secretary General went to the techical director of Athletic Federation of Nigeria, Sunday Bada as former Super Falcons goalkeeper, Anne Echejiene is the Treasurer.
Former Nigeria's female sprinter,Mary Onyali Omagbemi, stands as the new Public Relations Officer as Helen Idahosa Asemota is the Finacial Secretary while Bridget Yemale is he Assitant Secretary.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of Nigeria Olympic Committee, Tunde Popoola, has charged the newly elected of the Nigeria Olympia Association to fight against the use of banned drugs among Nigerian athletes.
Popoola, who made the comment in an interview with our sports correspondent, said it was a disgrace that Nigeria representatives to the Commonwealth Games in India were being suspended for using drugs and there is need for the Association to try it best in curbing the act among the atletes.
The NOC Secrteary, advised the Association to work closely with the N.O.C and National Sports Commission to design a way of stopping usage of drugs among the athletes,stressing that the combine efforts of the sports associations would go a long way to disassociate Nigerian athletes from using performance enhancing drugs.
