Nigerian Olympians have reacted over the manner at which members of the Nigeria Olympia Association are being treated after being out sports.
Former Nigerian boxer, Jerry Okorodudu, said it was a shame that Nigerian Olympiad were not given due recognition when compared to their counterparts in other part of the world and the trend has demoralised them from contributing to sports development.
Okorodudu, said the N.O.A should ensure that there is a viable system which would create an enabling environment for them to still be relevant in sports, adding that the Association must uplift the welfare of its members.
Nigeria's Gold Medalist at the Olympic Games, Chioma Ajunwa, who was disappointed over the manner at which Nigeria's Olympians are being treated, said Nigeria does not have a solid structure that could add value to their life after being out of sports.
She said many Nigerian Olympiads are living in poverty and it is only those who decided to delve into education that are able to stand out, adding that the country should endeavor to establish a virile sports programmes where their plight would be appreciated.
Edwards Akika who represented Nigeria at the 1962 Olympics, said the National Sports Commission must find a lasting solution to te trend because it could demoralise Nigerian athletes from being at the best during the Games.
