The Nigeria Football Federation has condemned, in very strong terms, the kidnapping of a former board member of the Federation, Chief Igbinowanhia Ekhosuehi in Benin City on Saturday evening.
NFF President, Aminu Maigari, speaking from Cairo where he had gone to attend the Glo-Caf African Football Awards, regretted the spate of kidnapping in the country, and particularly lamented the abduction of former NFF board member Ekhosuehi by unknown persons in the Edo State capital at the weekend.
“This is a very worrisome development. Chief Ekhosuehi has done so much for the development of football in Edo State and the country at large, and surely does not deserve this kind of treatment.
“We appeal to the kidnappers to release him without delay, while at the same time urging the security agencies to intensify efforts to secure his freedom. It is a sorrowful development especially in this period of festivities”, said Maigari.
Ekhosuehi, who is Chairman of Nigeria National League club, Bendel Insurance, had been a foremost figure in the development of football in Edo State in the past two decades.
Ekhosuehi’s kidnappers are said to have demanded for a ransom of N10 million from his family after abandoning the Jeep in which he was kidnapped somewhere around Ikpoba slope in Benin City.
