Nigeria's sensational table tennis female player, Offiong Edem, has won a Gold medal at the ongoing All African Games in Mozambique, Maputo in the Women's Singles event.
Edem after a disastrous start, beat her fellow compatriot Olufunke Oshonaike in five games, 0-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-9, 11-6 at the final hurdle to clinch the title for the first time in her career.
To reach the final, Edem beat a Chinese born Congo Brazzaville’s ping ponger,Han Xing in the semi-finals in six games, 15-17, 11-4, 12-10, 12-10, 7-11, 11-8.
While, Olufunke Oshonaike ended the hopes of Egypt’s Nadeen El-Dawlatly in four straight games of 13-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7.
To this end, Offiong Edem and Olufunke Oshonaike of Nigeria, Han Xing of Congo Brazzaville, Nadeen El-Dawlatly and Dina Meshref of Egypt and Sarah Hanffou of Cameroon made it through to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
