Am 100 percent Ready,Says Shehu Lawal

Nigerian tennis players have declared their readiness to make positive impact in the ongoing eleventh edition of the Governor's Tennis Cup at the Lagos LawnTennis Club, Onikan.

Sportsweight.blogspot.com, reports that four Nigerian tennis players had scaled through while Nigeria's numer one female tennis player.

Nigeria's sensational tennis player, Shehu Lawal outplayed his counterpart Clifford Enosoregbe by two straight set of 6 - 2, 6 - 1 to move to the next stage as Kingsley Enosoregbe also recorded similar feat after beating Sanni Adamu by 7- 6, 6 - 4, to zoom to the second round.

Candy Idoko who won a silver and bronze medals at the last All African Games defeated his arch rival Sunday Emmanuel, 7 - 5, 2- 6, 6 - 3 in the Men's singles category as Serah Adegoke also outsmashed Blessing Samuel, 6 - 3,7 - 5, in the Women's singles event

Fatimah Abinu crashed out after losing to Indian lady, Nidhi Chilumula who defeated the former CBN Open champion in a game that ended 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Christy Agugbom was also defeated by a Croatian lady, Silvia Njiric in a straight sets of 6-1, 6-3.

The current CBN Open female champion, Abiola Akewula was no match for Anna Floris of Italy who was defeated in a straight sets of 6-0,6-0.

While speaking with Sportsweight.blogspot.com, Shehu Lawal who beat Clifford Enosoregbe 6 - 2, 6 - 1, said he was one hundred percent ready for the tournament as he promised to play well to make an impact at the event.

Lawal, who was part of the Nigerian tennis team to the All African Games in Maputo, stressed that Nigerian tennis players had improved following their perfomances at the Governor's Tennis Cup as he believed that the upcoming players are pretty doing well.

He said the Nigerian tennis players need sponsors to help them to feature in series of ITF approved competitions a dn also to acquire ITF points,adding that the sport is an expensive game to play, thus they need sponsors to keep them in good shape.

On their perfomance at the All African Games, Lawal explained that none of the African tennis countries gave them a chance a the games because the sport has gone into doldrum in Nigeria but they were able to prove them wrong by wining Gold, Siler and Bronze medals.
