Four Nigerian tennis players have scaled through to the second round of the Governor's Tennis Cup at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club Onikan.
Clifford Enosoregbe, Onyeka Mbanu, Shehu Lawal and Candy Idoko, Fatima Abinu, Blessing Samuel, Sarah Adegoke and Abiola Akewula were among the seven Nigerian tennis who were given wild cards to play in the Main Draw of the competition.
Nigeria's sensational tennis player, Shehu Lawal outplayed his counterpart Clifford Enosoregbe by two straight set of 6 - 2, 6 - 1 to move to the next stage as Kingsley Enosoregbe also recorded similar feat after beating Sanni Adamu by 7- 6, 6 - 4, to zoom to the second round.
Candy Idoko who won a silver and bronze medals at the last All African Games defeated his arch rival Sunday Emmanuel, 7 - 5, 2- 6, 6 - 3 in the Men's singles category as Serah Adegoke also outsmashed Blessing Samuel, 6 - 3,7 - 5, in the Women's singles event
In other games played,Ante Pavic of Croatia defeated Theophilous Segodo of Benin Republic, 6 -3, 6 - 4, Vijayant Malik of India outplayed Mark Fynn of Zimbabwe, Yusuke Watanuki of Japan beat Kaza Sharma of India, 6 - 4, 6 - 3 in the Men's Singles cadre.
In the Women's singles,Anna Floris of Italy beat Nigerian tennis player,Bola Akewula who fought hard to gain entrance into the Main Draw by two straight set of 6 - luv, 6 - luv.
Nigeria's number one female tennis player, Fatimah Abinu who won the first set 6- 2, lost the remaining two set by 6 - 3, 6 - 3.
The competition continues tomorrow with the Men's Singles and Women's Singles and the Doubles events in the male and female categories.
