Lagos State Gymnastic Association To Set Up Gymnastic Foundation

Adebisi Adebayo and Isa Tunrayo emerged winners of the just concluded Gymnastic Inter - Clubs championship which ended on Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson indoor sportshall, Rowe Park, Yaba.

Adebayo, who emerged winner in the male event after amassing a total of sixteen point five zero, thanked Governor Babatunde Fashola, for engaging the state's athletes in a quarterly competitions as the move would spur them to excel at the Games in November.

To Tunrayo, who secured sixteeen points to top the female category event, explained that the tourney came at a time when the state's gymnasts are hungry for regular competitions to be in good form ahead of the Games since their counterparts in other states had begun preparations.

The Association Chairman, Adefemi Folusho, who also praised Governor Fashola, said the championship was a good beginning for them as it has enabled them to discover athletes who would be groomed for the IBILE Games, EKO 2012 and 2014 Games.

Folusho, who appealed to the state government to sustain the programme, said the tourney was not only design to discover and nurture discovered athletes but also to have a solid gymnastic foundation where gymnasts would be groomed for future challenges.

According to him, the association would design a structured training programme that would transform the discovered athletes to become future stars with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development.
