A group of basketball coaches in the Atlantic Conference has kicked against the decision of Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, for postponing the final eight competition due to the invitation of two domestic basketball players from two different clubs to the senior national team.
The basketball players were drawn from Kano Pillars and Royal Hoopers.
Proprietor of Dodan Warriors Basketball Club, Sam Ahmedu, said there was no element of professionalism in the decision of the NBBF because the number of basketball players invited to the national team, D'Tigers are insignificant for postponing the final eight which has greeted the attention of the qualified teams.
The former board member of the NBBF, said basketball clubs in the Atlantic and Savannah Conference were comfortable to play the final eight competition between nineth and sixteenth of this month as being scheduled on the NBBF calendar, stressing that the postponement would only be possible if the D'Tigers would depart for Venezuala in a couple of days for the Olympic qualifier.
Ahmedu, explained that the NBBF through the league coordinator, Babatunde Ogunade, confirmed that the final eight would begin in August 2012, three months after concluding the preliminary rounds, stressing that it would be a financial burden on the qualified teams for keeping the players for ninety days.
