First DeepWater Female Basketball Club of Lagos is on the verge of retaining the Zenith Bank Women Basketball League trophy after subduing Plateau Rocks in a game played yesterday in the indoor Sport shall of the National Stadium, Surulere.
The Oil and Gas ladies beat Plateau Rocks by wide margin of 97 to 32 points in the final phase of the league.
Its Head Coach, Lateef Erinfolami, said the club's participation in the final phase was a mere formality based on thei run beaten run in the league as he stressed that the team's technical crew has charged the basketball players not to relent in their quest to retain the trophy in order to feature in the next edition of the FIBA Africa Club Championship.
Erinfolami, said the club had started preparing for the African Club Championship with their outstanding performance in the league as plans are in top gear to play international friendlies in a bid to expose his wards to the rigours of the game at continental level.
He explained that the team would be fortified with credible basketball players so as to surpass their performance at the last held African Club competition held in Lagos.
In other games played, Sunshine Angels beat Nigeria Customs 95 points to 32 as First Bank Basketball Club defeated Delta Force by 95 points to 57 while Dolphins secured maximum 20 points after FCT Angels failed to honour the game.
