As the 18th National Sports Festival tagged Eko 2012 kicks off today, the Main Organising Committee (MOC) yesterday confirmed that Lagos was indeed ready to host the sporting fiesta.

With all the facilities in place coupled with the efforts of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to stage a befitting tournament, the MOC through its secretary general, Abba Yola, described this as the best in the history of the games.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Yola commended Lagos State Government as well as the LOC led by the State Deputy Governor, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire for matching all their words with action, saying, ‘This is indeed a rare partnership in the history of the festival’.

“From the MOC, I want to say we are indeed satisfied that Lagos is ready to host the 18th National Sports Festival and with all the equipment in place, we are happy to inform you that Lagos is fully ready for the games.

This is the first in recent times, that a state will match all its words with action by ensuring that all what they promised were ready even before the kick off of the game. The partnership between and LOC and MOC have been tremendous, as both bodies have really worked together to ensure that the festival becomes a rallying point for others.

We want to sincerely than the Lagos State Government for ensuring that all what they said they will do were done and we are sure that this will be another major milestone in the history of National Sports Festival,” he said.

He however, admitted that the National Sports Commission (NSC) would ensure that vices associated with the festival were nipped in the bud. “I want to assure that NSC recognised the vices that have characterized previous festivals and they are doing everything possible after KADA 2009 to ensure that the festival is sanitise.

This will surely be continued at Eko 2012, so that we can a truly national sports festival that will unearth new talents for the country. We are aware of the challenges and we are ready to face these challenges to make it a tournament for amateur athletes that will grow up to become world stars,” the MOC scribe said.
