Port Harcourt AGA: FA Chairmen Still Waiting For NFF’s Response

Chairman of Chairmen of the Nigeria Football Federation,NFF, Effiong Johnson says Football Association, F.A, chairmen in the country are still waiting on the NFF to respond to their request to stage the 2012 Annual General Assembly, AGA, in another State apart from Port Harcourt.
The FA Chairmen last week requested that the NFF should take the AGA away from Port Harcourt because of what Johnson described as “unwarranted attack on football” by Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Ameachi.
Ameachi had accused the NFF of being corrupt at a Presidential Sports Retreat held in Abuja nearly two weeks ago, even calling for the dissolution of the board of the federation.
Despite calls from several quarters on F.A Chairmen to soft peddle and have a rethink, Johnson who is also Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association said he and his colleagues would only appreciate a positive response from the NFF.
“We’ve made our position known to the NFF and have sought a request to have the venue of the AGA changed. We will only appreciate a positive response from the federation.
“We have huge respect for Governor Ameachi and sincerely do appreciate his contribution to sports development in the country but we feel terrible that he could make such comments. This whole occurrence is regrettable because on a personal note, I’ve been looking forward to a wonderful AGA in Port Harcourt, but the chairmen have spoken.”
On why the NFF is yet to act on the request of the FA Chairmen despite being put on notice for close to a week now, Johnson said the silence of the football governing body was as a result principal officers being away from the country on official assignment.
“I was told that the President on the NFF was out of the country on an official assignment and a few board members have been indisposed as well. We hope to hear from them as soon as they are disposed.”
The 2012 Annual General Assembly of the NFF has been fixed to hold on November.
