There are strong indications that Nigerian born Newcastle United striker, Shola Ameobi, will not feature at the African Nations Cup in South Africa in 2013.
This is because there is a contract clause that may exclude him from the African soccer fiesta as the Super Eagles will depart for Faro, Portugal today through Accra, Ghana, to begin the final phase of its camping for the African Nations Cup.
Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, who made this known at the weekly media parley in Abuja that precedes the team’s departure, declared that he spoke to the striker on Christmas day and he told him that two years ago he signed a clause in his contract that says he cannot go to the Nations Cup without the Manager’s permission.
He added that the fear of Newcastle United lossing Demba Ba during the January transfer window would also affect his realease for the soccer fiesta as the club would need his service when Demba leaves, stressing he would speak with his Manager Alan Pardew in a resolve the issue.
The Super Eagles will have their last training session at the Abuja National Stadium training pitch today before departing for Portugal, as all the football players who will not be making the trip to Portugal will be decamped same day.
