Delta Dominates Swimming Event.

Delta State has dominated the swimming event in the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival tagged EKO 2012 Games with a total of 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals in the day one of the swimiming which took place on Monday at the swimming section of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

Delta State claimed Gold medals in the 100 metres Breast Stroke Men through Amukali Oduni with a time of 1: 11: 60 as Otobodo Owaren clinched the Gold medal in the 200 metres Free Style Men when he returned with a time of 2:05:98 while Goodnews Egirigi settled for a Gold medal in the 50 metres Back Stroke Women with a time of 34:52 just as Delta State picked the Gold medal in the 4 X 200 metres Relay Women through Ruth Izenegu, Deborah Okpocinni, Oweire Seanan and Feanot Stella with a time of 10:24:23.

While speaking with our correspondent, Otobodo Owaren, who was elated over the Gold medal he won,said his target at the EKO 2012 Games was to claim 11 Gold medals in a bid to better his personal performance of Six Gold and Four Silver at the Garden City Games hosted by the Rivers State Government in 2011, adding that the Delta Government has really invested heavily on swimming hence the reason the state's swimmers would top the medals table of the swimming event of the EKO 2012 Games.

 Ondo State came second with 2 Gold and 2 Silver medals while Lagos State clinched the third position with 1 Gold and 3 Bronze medals.
