Lagos State Squash Team has cleared the two Gold medals at stake in the Men's and Ladies Singles of the Squash event at the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival tagged EKO 2012 Games.

Taiwo Ebifemi, top rated Lagos State female Squash player, fulfilled her long ambition of wining Gold medal since she started featuring in the National Sports Festival in 2006 at Gateway Games by defeating her arch rival Sunday Veronica of Rivers State whom she regarded as her major obstacle in the sport by three set to one, 9 - 11, 11 - 7, 12 - 10, 11 - 5.

Ebifemi, who went on a three day fasting and prayer to achieve the feat, said was determined to crown her participation in the National Sports Festival with a Gold medal having won two Bronze medals at Kada Games 2009 and failing to compete at the Garden City Games hosted by Rivers State Government since Squash was not included in the list of sports for the Games.

The Gold medalist told our correspondent that it was God's making to have clinched the Gold medal in the Ladies Singles because Sunday Veronica is one of the Nigeria's strongest female squash players who many at times defeat her in major tournaments and playing her against in the final was her greatest concern, hence the reason she has to go spiritual to fulfill her aspirations.

She explained that it was unfortunate that the state's Squash players were unable to win the four Gold medals at stake in the Squash but they are satisfied with the three Gold medals won in the Male team event, Ladies and Men's Singles to top the medals table in Squash event.

In the Men's Singles, Wala Amao of Lagos State compliment Ebifemi's efforts by overwhelming Femi Shadara of Edo State by three set to One, 11 - 8, 11 - 5, 8 - 11, 11 - 7, to claim the Gold medal at stake in the event which took place on Thursday at the Squash hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

While speaking on the feat, the Chairman of Lagos State Squash Association, Sanya Akindele , who was pleased with the overall performance of the association's squash players at the EKO 2012 Games, said for the team to have outplayed squash players from Delta, Rivers and Ondo States squash players showed that the squash players were well prepared for the Games couple with their performance at the last concluded Lagos State Squash Classic.

The Association's Head Coach, Wasiu Sanni, who thanked God for His mercy upon his squash players, attributted the feat to hard work, dedication and their willingness to learn new techniques
