Following its defeat to the Lagos State male football team by 3 - 2 on spot kicks, Kwara State has forwarded its protest letter to the Nigeria Football Federation,NFF, over eligibility of two football players fielded by Team Lagos in the second semi final played at the Agege Stadium.
Due to poor visibility at the Agege Stadium, the concluding part of the match was played on Friday after the match ended two goals apiece in duration time on Thursday.
The Special Assistant ot the Governor on Sports, Toyin Olokooba, accused Lagos State for fielding a football player who plays for 36 Lions Football Club, Professional League side, that plays some of its league matches at Ilorin Township Stadium as well as a football players whose picture on the accreditation tag does not represent the fielded football player.
According to him, the attitude of the match officials negate the spirit of the National Sports Festival as they pave the way for the Lagos State team to equalise as the centre referee gave the Team Lagos six free kicks within five minutes, adding that the Kwara State defence cave in after so much pressure that led to equaliser at the late minutes.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports, said Kwara State conceeded to a defeat when the Lagos State male football defeated Kwara State during the 1985 National Sports Festival in Kwara State, adding that the win at all cost syndrome could jeopardise the essence of the Games.
Olokooba, explained that Cross River stood the chance of wining the Gold medal at stake in the male football event because the Team Lagos are not too fanstatic.
