Lagos Picks Gold In Men's, Women's Doubles

The Lagos State Table Tennis team has confirmed its supremacy in the Men's and Women's Doubles events at the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival tagged EKO 2012 Games as the Team Lagos defeated Delta State to win the Gold medals at stake in the doubles events decided on Wednesday at the indoor sportshall of the National Stadium, Surulere.
The duo of Mojeed Olayiwola and Adeyinka Ahmed of Lagos State were crowned the champion of the Men's Doubles event after beating Idowu Onifade and Tunde Kalejaye of Delta State by three straight sets of 11 - 8, 13 - 11, 11 -7.
At the semi final stage, Team Lagos, shattered the ambition of the Ogun State to reach the final as they defeated them by three set to two, 11 - 4, 12 - 10, 6 - 11, 8 - 11, 12 - 10.
In the Women's Doubles final, Sidi Yahaya and Aminat Fashola who outplayed the duo of Edet Bassey and Effioawan Ntiero of Cross River in the semi final complemented the efforts of their male counterparts by recording an outstanding feat of three straight set of 11- 9, 11- 9, 11 - 7.
The success recorded by the Lagos State Table Tennis team now increased her medals haul to a total of 4 Gold medals won in the Male Team event, Mixed Doubles, and Men's and Women's Doubles events.
However, the female team of Lagos State Table Tennis Association would have been counting her 5th Gold medals if her fast devloping female ping ponger,Fatimo Bello was not banned from the EKO 2012, having reached the finalf the female team event.
