Lagos State and Delta
State have won the Men's and Women's Singles Gold medals in the table
tennis event concluded on Friday at the indoor sportshall of the
National Stadium, Surulere, 18th National Sports Festival tagged EKO
2012 Games.
The Men's Singles was virtually Lagos State Affairs as Ahmed
Adeyinka confirmed his supremacy over Mojeed Olayiwola, his compatriots
in a game that ended four set to two, 11- 8, 11 - 9, 8 - 11, 8- 11, 11 -
5, 11 -8, to be decorated with the Gold medal while Olayiwola settled
for theSilver just as Gbenga Ashimiyu grabbed the Bronze medal.
To reach the final, Ahmed Adeyinka outplayed Ayo Omotara of Lagos
State in the semi final by by four set to two while Mojeed Olayiwola
outstroked Ganiyu Ashimiyu by four set to one.
The Gold medalist, who thanked God for giving him the Gold medal,
said he trained very hard to achieve the feat as the tyraining tour of
China also contributted immensely to the Men's Singles Gold medal,
adding that the feat would encourage him not to relent in her efforts to
be rated among the Nigerian table tennis players.
Defending champion of Women's Singles, Rashidat Ogundele of Delta
State defeated Aminat Fashola by four set to one, 12 -10, 11 - 8, 7 -
11, 11 - 7, 11 - 7.
