The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation,NWF, has fined Kano State with the sum of fifty thousand naira for featuring a weightlifter, Aminu Aliyu, for using three different names in the last three National Sports Festivals.
The Kano State weightlifter registered for the Gateway Games in 2006 as Aminu Aliyu as he participated at the Kada 2009 National Sports Festival as Aminu Aliyu Suleiman nd Garden City Games hosted by the Rivers State Government as Aminu Sale.
The Federation was able to uncover Aminu criminal act after Delta State protested against Kano State in the weightlifting event at the Brai Ayonote Gym.
To this end, the NWF jury has enjoined Kano State Sports Council to warn its coach for parading an athlete at the EKO 2012 Games who used fake names to deceive the Federation to participate in the last three National Sports Festivals.
The Secretary of NWF, Uche Onwumeh, said the state would not be allowed to participate in other events in the weightlifting if the state failed to pay the fine of fifty thousand naira before the close of today's event.
