Lagos Boxers Pick Semi Final Tickets

Five of the Lagos State Boxers have qualified for the Semi final in the boxing event in the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival tagged EKO 2012 Games in an event decided in the Nigeria Institute of Sports, Gymnasium, Complex.
The Gymnasium complex became frenzy when it was the turn of sensational Lagos State pugilits, Olaide Fijabi, to fight in the 64 kilogramme in a bout against Soyelu Olusola of Federal Capital Territory as he outpunched his opponents to earn 9 - 2 to book a semi final ticket in the first quarter final bouts decided on Tuesday.
Fijabi who took the lead in the first round with a 2-1, came out stronger in the second round to wrap up the round by 6 - 2 as Soyelu Olusola could not withstand Fijabi's punches in the last round which ended 9 -2.
In other bouts decided Dauda Azeez of Lagos State defeated Samuel Ejike of Nasarawa State by 14 - 0 as Joseph Otto defeated Opagun Samuel of Benue State by 11 - 0 to scale through to the Semi final.
In the female category, Adebayo Mutiat of Lagos State in the 51 kilogramme subdued Ewah Jenny Archibing of Cross River State by 13 - 1 while Oriyomi Asisat of Lagos State dealt with Frank Judith of Rivers State in the 54 kilogramme by 4 - 0.
However, two of the Team Lagos were unable to qualify for the semi final as Akinade Akeem in the 52 kilogramme lost to Yinka Aremu of Enugu State while Vincent Vivian of Lagos State in the 57 kilogramme in the female category also lost Odion Onome of OgunState by 3- 15. Lagos State featured a total of 16 boxers in the male and female categories.
