Written By sportsweight.blogspot.com on Sunday, December 30, 2012 | 11:05 PM

After three days of hostilities, Elijah Ekeweme, whose ring name is Rushing Belt, was the last man standing in the Royale Rumble contest that was used to decide the overall winner of the 2nd BRF Wrestlemania at the Molade Okoya Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos Saturday night.

The contest, which involved 28 wrestlers at the same time, saw Rushing Belt and Rocky Johnson remaining in the ring, but with his doggedness and determination couple with skills, Rushing Belt was able to defeat Rocky Johnson and was declared the winner of the competition staged to honour Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola for his contribution to sports development in Lagos State.

In other bouts of the night Scatter beat Big Fish, Hot Tempo defeated Sharpman. Flying Danco took Masked Terror to the cleaner; the Tac Team bout was won by the trio of Mr. Kick, Atom Ant and Mighty Man. They defeated the Batters’ brothers and Vigeo Lee.

Coordinator and Initiator of the BRF Wrestlemania, Prince Hammed Olanrewaju Mohammed said that the organisers discovered 25 local wrestlers that will represent Nigeria at the 2013 Intercontinental World Wrestling Championship, which will be staged at three senatorial districts in Lagos State in May.

“We have been able to discover about 25 Nigerians wrestlers from the just concluded 2nd BRF Wrestlemania. These wrestlers will represent Nigeria at the world championship coming up in Lagos in 2013.

“Four wrestlers in the Super Heavyweight, six in the Heavyweight, six in the Cruiserweight, four in the Light Heavyweight, two in the ladies’ category, while the last four are in the Middleweight.

“These wrestlers are ready to take on their counterparts from other continents at the world championship.

The plan of the Local Organising Committee, LOC and the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, NWF, is to have these Nigerians have  warm up championships in Vienna, Aberdeen, Scotland, Berlin Germany and the last one in the home of Hulk Hogan in Florida, USA at the semi world wrestling championship, which will hold from 15-18 April, 2013 before the Lagos championship in May,” said Prince Mohammed, who is also the President of the NWF.
