Fashola, Abdullahi, NASCOM others for Greensprings Sports Forum

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola and Minister of Sports/ Chairman, National Sports Commission, Bolaji Abdullahi, Kanu Nwankwo as well as top officials of the National Academicals Sports Committee (NASCOM) led by its chairman, Yemi Idowu are expected to grace the second Greensprings Sports Forum.

The one-day interactive session, which holds this Saturday March 2 at 10am with the theme "the Role of the Media in School Sports Development" .

 According to Greensprings’ Director of Education, Professor George Hickman, the forum is aimed at highlighting the role of sports development in the all-around and holistic development of young persons.

 “The Sports Forum is an annual Greensprings School initiative aimed at highlighting the role of sports development in the all-around, holistic development of young persons.

 It emphasizes the importance of schools having a strong co-curricular, after-school program, along with the regularly scheduled physical education classes to enhance the academic program of schools,” Hickman said.


 He added: “Research clearly indicates that the best schools in the world are ones which offer a wide range of athletics which go hand-in-hand with academic programs.

The Forum is also designed to solicit the support of the media in emphasizing the overall importance of sports as an integral part of holistic education, including character building, healthy life styles, team building and fitness as a natural part of growing up.”

 The Lekki campus of Greensprings will host the event and it will also be used to officially launch the sports academy of the school in Lekki. Speakers include Dr. Isaac Ikhioya, Director, National Institute for Sports (NIS); Mumini Alao, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Complete Communication Limited; Segun Agbede, sports analyst, Supersports Nigeria; Aisha Falode, sports analyst, African Independence Television (AIT); Dr. Larry Izamoje, CEO, Brila Radio; Abimbola Kazeem, Connect Marketing Services and Tunde Popoola, Secretary General, Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
