Pupils Call On Government To Organise Regular Athletic Competitions.

The need to unearth hidden talents at the grassroot level through the ongoing Premier Lotto Lagos State Athletics Championship has been described as the right step towards building Nigeria's future stars.

Sportsweight.blogspot.com, reports that the athletic meet since it started on Monday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium have been able to identified potential future stars who could represent Nigeria at either continental or IAAF approved championship.

 Some of the pupils who are featuring in the tournament have praised the Lagos State government for giving them the opportunity to exhibit their skills and also to expose them to a competitive athletic championship which would propel them to continue working hard to win laurels.

Aziken Abraham of Egan Senior Grammar School, Igando, who won the male One hundred metres race in the male category, has called on the government at all levels to invest heavily in sports facilities, stressing that most of the pupils participating in the event are running on their bare foot.

Abraham, believed that Jamaican sprinter, Usain Bolt, was able to achieve remarkable feat in athletic because he was exposed to adequate sports facilities, adding that there are many Usain Bolt in Nigeria but they are yet to be transformed toa world class athletes.

Odoemena Chioma, of Ikotun Senior High School who clinched the second position in the 1,500 race, stressed the need for the state to give scholarship awards to pupils to enable them to combine education with sports
