The 2012/2013 Lagos Junior League season entered its 13th week with some interesting and deciding fixtures.
Lagos Island West hosted Apapa Golden Stars, Surulere were pitched against the Ultimate Strikers of Onigbongbo while Ikoyi Obalende tried their strength against the Champions Nath Boys.
The Golden Stars were trailing the league leaders by nine points and were looking to reduce the deficit as they took on mid-table Eko Akete FC.
The Apapa boys were stunned just 9 minutes into the game by Adetunji Abodurin of Lagos Island out smarted an overconfident Apapa defence to set the stage for an interesting encounter.
It took the Apapa boys thirty minutes to get back into the game through Adewale Sapara. Anthony Joshua put the Golden Stars ahead on the stroke of half time. Lagos Island fell apart defensively in the second half allowing Apapa run away 4-1 winners.
Surulere Sport City F.C continued their steady climb up the log when they threw the spanner in the works for title hopefuls Onigbongbo Ultimate Strikers.
Both teams played hard but cautiously in the first half and it was inevitable when Surulere got the first goal.
Before the game was over Surulere had scored two more goals while the Ultimate strikers could only get a consolation goal.
With eight first team players on national duty, a highly depleted Nath Boys team overhauled Ikoyi Obalende 6-0.
It was not all smooth sailing for the champions as the first half proved to be uncharacteristic for Nath Boys who improvised with a rather risky formation of four defenders and six midfielders and no clear cut striker; it was one of the three regulars in the Nath Boys side, Dipeolu Moses that gave the champions a one goal lead going into the break.
Ikoyi Obalende had no chance in the second half as some tactical changes from the Lekki boy’s bench withdrawing Ntoro a midfielder and giving goal sniffer Aminu Abubakar a place up front.
The changes bore fruit almost immediately with Aminu providing a brace.
The Ikoyi team couldn’t muster a response and evitable shot themselves in the foot allowing the Nath team too much space and time on the ball.
Deba, Samuel and Ekene provided their bit with Nath Boys romping to a 6-0 victory extending their lead at the top of the table to 5 points.
