Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will play in one of Groups A, B, C and D at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey, taking place between 21 June – 13 July.
At the Draw Ceremony which took place yesterday at the Grand Tarabya Hotel in Istanbul , the African teams were allocated spaces as CAF champions, runners-up, 2nd runners-up and 4th respectively, as the African tournament is still on-going in Algeria.
A similar thing happened in 2011, when the Draw Ceremony for the FIFA Under 20 World Cup Colombia 2011 was made in Barranquilla while the African Youth Championship was still on in South Africa.
Winner of the African Youth Champions will play in Group E alongside Chile, England and Iraq, which is not a bad proposition as the matches will take place in Antalya and Bursa.
Africa’s runners-up, at the competition which ends in Algeria on Saturday, will play against France, USA and Spain in a Group A that is seen as ‘Group of Death’ by FIFA U-20 World Cup enthusiasts.
Africa’s second runners-up will play Cuba, Korea Republic and Portugal in Group B, which matches will be played in Kayseri and Istanbul, while CAF’s fourth-placed team is drawn in Group D to play Mexico, Greece and Paraguay in Gaziantep and Trabzon.
