Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi , Chairman National Sports Commission (NSC),has again requested the Golden Eaglets to give President Goodluck Jonathan something to cheer about at next Wednesday's Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
Golden Eaglets have a date with destiny on Saturday when they tackle Baby Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire in an all-West African Final Match at the 2013 CAN U-17 Championship at the Grande Stade de Marrakech on Saturday.
The minister who would be unavoidable absent at the championship finale, said the Golden Eaglets should go all the way and emulate the Super Eagles to become African Champions at the cadet level.
“Nigerians are behind you as you take on Cote d'Ivoire on Saturday and Mr. President is eaglerly awaiting you with the trophy," the Minister said."Personally, I'm looking forward to taking the CAN U-17 trophy to the FEC meeting on Wednesday to present it to Mr. President and be
assured of his best wishes."
Similarly speaking to the team ahead of Saturday's cracker, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, President Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), said President Jonathan would be more than happy if the Golden Eaglets win the championship. Nigeria is chasing a record third title after winning the championship on two previous occassions in 2001 and 2007.
Maigari has enjoined the present crop of Golden Eaglets to give Nigerians and indeed President Jonathan, a second continental soccer honour in as many months after Super Eagles victory at AFCON in February.
“I don't want you to miss the opportunity of meeting with Mr. President who would graciously host you if you do the country proud on Saturday," he said."Just go and do your best for the country against Cote d'Ivoire and leave the rest to Mr. President."
