The long-awaited Kogi State 2013 Federation Cup competition finally commenced on 16th April, 2012 with Tao United dumping out Dekina Dragons on a 3:1 victory at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja.
Kogi State FA Cup defending champions, non-league KABU FC who defeated Kogi United 3:1 on penalties following a scoreless draw in regulation time of the finals of the 2012 edition will be aiming to defend their title though will face tough fight with Okene based Akparfa Rock Football Club.
The 2012 Kogi State FA Cup tournament which is expected to feature 10 registered clubs in the contest for the coveted annually organised Challenge Cup.
According to the fixtures released the registered clubs are defending champions Kabba FC, NNWL side and 2011 champions Lokoja FC, Idah United FC, NNL side Kogi United FC, Akparfa Rock FC and Igalamela FC, Okehi United FC, Tao United FC, Igala United FC.
A statement released by the Kogi State FA and signed by the State FA Secretary, Shuiabu Ibrahim, confirmed that the annual tournament will kick-starts on 16th April 2012 with all the games to be played in Lokoja.
Big guns in the Preliminaries are Nigeria Nationwide League side Lokoja FC, Idah United while defending champions, Kabba and Nigeria National League side Kogi United will not be involved in the early start of the competition.
