Administrator for Kogi-owned clubs, Mr Paul Aiyenugba believes Nigeria National League side Kogi United can still play in the Nigeria Professional Football league next season, while calling for supports from the people of Kogi and stakeholders to advance the club.
The State-owned clubs Administrator who is also the Special Adviser to Kogi State government on Sports Development made this statement while reinstated his focus on ensuring NNL side, Kogi United secure one of the promotion tickets for the Nigeria league topflight.
Overwhelmed Mr Paul who after watching the Lokoja based NNL side strike late to earn a deserved victory against Plateau United, dedicated the victory last weekend to Governor Idris Wada and the good people of Kogi state who make out time to be at the Confluence stadium to cheer the team.
He stated that the ambition of getting Kogi United to the next level is top priority of the government, as the administration of governor Idris Wada remains focused at reposition the state-owned clubs.
“We are delighted with the massive presence of kogi people last weekend against Plateau, we happy their presence was rewarded with a victory. On behalf of the club’s management, we dedicate the victory against Plateau United and Confluence Queens’ walkover to Governor Idris Wada and Kogi people.
“As a club, we determined and optimistic getting a promotion ticket is a possibility for Kogi United and also reward the soccer-loving people of Kogi by grabbing any of the available ticket into the Nigeria Professional Football league next season- for this, we appeal to relevant stakeholders and people of Kogi to rally the club to get to the next level,” the State-owned clubs’ Media officer, Samuel Ahmadu quoted him as saying.
Kogi United resumed their 2012/2013 NNL campaign with a clinical 1:0 victory over division topper, Plateau United, thanks to a late brilliant volley from Oyota Arinze which handed Mr Aiyenugba his first win on managerial debut with the club.
Kogi United fc that has accrued 22 points from 16 games and five behind leaders Plateau United will make a winnable trip away to Abuja to lock horns with FC Abuja in the week-seventeen on Saturday, 21st April, 2013.
