This
weekend, the prestigious Premier
League of the famed
Under-20 regulation league called the Lagos Junior League climaxes.
The
last eighteen (18) match weeks have produced a plethora
of exciting and remarkable footballing history surmounting even the
craziest of
expectations.
The level of competition and quality experienced within
the Lagos
Junior League literally gives other leagues in Nigeria a shiver.
After 180 matches with just 10 matches
to go the
competitiveness in the League is at an all time high. The second
position is
wide open with Onigbongbo Ultimate Strikers, Apapa Golden Stars and
Y.M.D Babes
of Ojo going head to head for the second spot.
Interestingly Ojo will
host
Apapa on Sunday at LASU in their last match while Mushin Bombers who
narrowly
missed out in this contest will take on Onigbongbo in another epic
battle.
One team that continues to register
themselves as the League’s
trailblazers is Nath Boys FC. The Lekki based team have remained
unbeaten for
two seasons since their 12th February 2011, 2-0 loss to Apapa Golden
Stars.
The
Champions raised the bar further by winning all their matches so far in
the
2012/2013 season and clinched the title with three odd games to spare.
Lagos Island West who has stepped up
tremendously since
their promotion to this division will have an opportunity to make LJL
history by
quashing Nath Boys unbeaten run when they meet for their final matchup
at
Legacy on Sunday evening.
Eti Osa East takes on Apapa Iganmu at
Campos, while Mosan
Okunola tackles Surulere at Alade stadium of Saturday evening.
The
relegation battle is not quite straight forward as Ikorodu
west, Amuwo Odofin, Ikoyi Obalende, Odi Olowo, Bariga and Oshodi Isolo
all face
the axe in varying degrees.
All in all the grand finale of the
2012/2013 Premier League
season is worthy of a grand finish.
