Sodiq Ajibade, Gloria Odiase Win Cyclefest Championship.

Sodiq Quadri Ayodeji of Oyo State cycling association has won the 2013 cyclefest championship that battracted over sixteen States and numerous private cycling clubs in Nigeria.
Caleb Kalizibe of Bayelsa State and Goodnews Cifford of Rivers State emerged 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively.
In the Women Professional category, all podium positions were won by the Rivers state trio of Gloria Odiase, Rita Aggo and Rosemary Marcus.
Ajibade, who grabbed the sum of one million naira for his excellence performance, said Kalizibe Calebs of Bayelsa State deserved to win the race but he failed to exert his energy in a couple of minutes to nthe finishing line.
16 states cycling teams and four recreational cycling clubs have indicated willingness to take part in the championship.
They include; Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Kaduna, Gombe, Nasarawa and Borno. Others are; Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Lagos, Rivers and Imo. Recreational cycling clubs have also registered for the race, they are; Lifestyle Cycling Club, Port Harcourt; Cycology Cycling, Lagos; Road Runners and Recreational Cycling Club, Lagos and OldBastids Nigeria
The gold medalist at KADA games, who noted that the efficacy of his two months training programme paved the way for him, said lack of regular cycling competitions had been the bane of the sport as he urged the Nigerian cycling Federation, NCF, to seek the support of corporate bodies to organise competitions.
An elated cyclist, who specialise in hill climbing clycling and one-man time trial, said their counterparts in Europe were rated best by the international body because they are exposed to series of competitions which assist them to acquire experiences and skills to excel.
He appealed to the Oyo State Government not to relent in its efforts to invest heavily in sports as the gesture would not only enhance the growth of sports in the State but create a platform for the youths to exhibit the talents in them.
The cycling athletes rigorously cycled a total of 270 kilometre stretch of road, with rainfall part of the way on the Lagos terrain, starting from the National Stadium and routing Eko Bridge - Marina - Bonny Camp - Ahmadu Bello - Bar Beach - 1004 - Falomo - Bourdilon - Foreshore - 3MB - Oworoshoki - Ojota - Otedola gardens - Alausa - Awolowo Way - Allen.Opebi - Sheraton - Bank Anthony - Airport - AgegeMotorWay - Oshodi - Anthony - MaryLand - Ikorodu Road - Western Avenue and back to the Stadium.
