The Management of the Season Six of the MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship has said that the registration for the Five- A- SIde football will close on Saturday, 27th of July, 2013 as the Local Organising Committee (LOC) begins screening for the newly-introduce Under 15 category.

According to the Executive Secretary, Deji Aladegbemi, more teams have picked registration forms for the competition and in order to ensure effective organization, the registration of teams would close on Saturday July 27.

In a bid to check age cheat, thorough screening of players that will feature in the junior category is ongoing with more groups confirming their interest in the category.

Aladegbemi, said the response for the first of its kind in the history of the competition had been overwhelming especially from religious gruops such as NASFAT and RCCG while the support of the Local Government and LCDAs cannot be overemphasized, adding that the ministry of education through the six education districts in the state has also expressed their willingness to be part of the Under 15 category.

“Response for the U-15 junior category has been overwhelming especially from religious groups like NASFAT and RCCG while the support of the Local Government and LCDAs cannot be overemphasized. The ministry of education through the six education districts in the state has also expressed their willingness to be part of the Under 15 category,” he said.

Aladegbemi added that it became imperative for schools to be encouraged to be part of the competition, adding that this would allow young players to test might with their age mates.

He added that the initiative was in line with the objective of the state to encourage age group competitions among students as plans are in top gear to select the best legs at the end of the season that will form Under 15 MTN Lagos Street Soccer team with the opportunity of graduating into the state team

“Education and sports we believe must go pari passu and with the introduction of this category, students will have opportunity to study as well as pursue their career in football. Our plan is to select the best legs at the end of the season that will form U-15 MTN Lagos Street Soccer team with the opportunity of graduating into the state team. Also, we want to encourage students to combine sports with education,” Aladegbemi explained.

With a target of 800 teams this season, Aladegbemi believes this year’s tourney would marked another milestone in the history of the tournament.

Aside the introduction of the U-15 category, season six of the championship will have the male, female and corporate categories with winners carting home mouth-watering prizes.
