Despite the Eid-el-Fitri holiday,
Lagos sports arena was bubbling at the weekend with various associations staging
their Quarterly Inter-Clubs Competitions.
In the Volleyball Inter-Clubs
Competition finals played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Fashola Babes were a
delight to watch as they overpowered their opponents, Team Lagos 3-0 in the
female category of the two days tournament.
Team Lagos, who won bronze medal
in the Volleyball event at last year's National Sports Festival, looked
ordinary on the court as Fashola Babes taught them how to play good Volleyball.
Legacy Volleyball Club defeated Unity Volleyball Club 2-0 to win the male’s
event of the competition.
Eight teams featured in the
championship which was organised by Lagos State Volleyball Association with
facilitating resources from Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social
Development and the Office of Grassroots Sports Development.
In table tennis finals played at
the Indoor Hall of Mobolaji Johnson, Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos, players of
Spring Fresh Table Tennis Club were the cynosure of all eyes as the ping
pongers showcased their talents. Mojeed Olayiwola
of Spring Fresh was at his best when he defeated David Fayemi
of Union Bank Table Tennis Club in the men's singles final played.
Olayiwola
gave good account of himself when he defeated his counterpart, Fayemi
4-2 to
emerge the champion.
Shortly after his victory,
Olayiwola said the victory was well deserved but admitted that his opponent
gave him a tough game throughout the encounter. He said the victory will spur him
to perform well in the forthcoming International Classic Table Tennis
Championship scheduled for Lagos.
In the Women's singles final,
Morufat-Idris defeated Tolu Durosimi Etti 4-2 to emerge winner. In the junior
Girls singles, Bose Odusanya humbled Alimat Ayinla 4-1, while Azeez Ogunlade thrashed
Rilwan Akanbi 4-2 in the junior boys singles final.
