The 2013 edition of the End of the Year Hockey Festival (Endyfas) has been scheduled to hold on December 12 at the Union Bank Sports Complex in Surulere, Lagos.
The one-day tournament aimed at preparing hockey players for the new season would see 17 teams vying
for honours.
Endyfas Hockey Festival coordinator, Mr Afolabi Awojobi, said in a press statement in Lagos that: “For the first time in the 12-year history of the competition will feature a female tournament.”
This he noted is aimed to give female players a fair and enjoyable tournament. Awojobi added that:
“There will be 12 male teams and five female teams in all battling
for supremacy.
“Participation still cuts across the South-Western states – Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti and Lagos states.
This year's edition is of great significance to the Endyfas team and hockey world at large because it would be organised in memory of one of the greatest hockey players of his time, Felix
Omolade, who died after a brief illness over 4 years ago. He played
for Oyo state U-16, Union Bank hockey club and for the national
team.”
“We will also feature the usual tournament in between- the penalty stroke tournament for all comers and people who still want to participate without sweating too much. A host of ex-internationals will be on parade for different teams during the competition- Akin Awojobi, Kehinde Otuniga, PatrickbUkah (former president, Nigeria Hockey Federation), Folarin Jaiyeola former vice president NHF), Okwudili Menyei and a bunch of other young budding talents from within the South-West region.”
The final participating teams listed for the male category of the Endyfas 2013 are: Male- Field Marshals, Generation X, Indomitables, Eminent Dudes, Asumah's Team, Oluyole Flickers, Commandant Team A, Commandant Team B and Ekiti Young Chaps.
Others include Akoka Flickers, Dynamic Starlets and Gazanfaar.
While in the female category, 90 Degrees Babes, Temmak Girls, Budding Queens, Team TT and Ogun Babes will battle for supremacy.
