For his immense contribution to sports as well as to the ideals of Olympics value, Governor Babatunde Fashola will today be honoured by the International Olympic Committee.
According to the Secretary General, Nigeria Olympic Committee, N.O.C, Tunde Popoola, the choice of the governor was based on his enormous contribution to sports development in the country.
While explaining that the IOC trophy is usually presented to an outstanding individual, who has contributed immensely to sports in a particular country, Popoola, said the Governor had been chosen in Nigeria as the recipient of the trophy, which also marked the one hundred years of Modern Olympics.
The Governor’s support for sports especially grassroots sports development cannot be underestimated that at several occasions he had supported various sporting programmes.
The governor had also be honoured by Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) with a Long and Outstanding Contribution Award.
The trophy will be presented by the representative of IOC in Nigeria, Habu Gumel alongside the President of NOC, Sani Ndanusa.
