Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Admonishes Public Servants To Take To Sports

Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu, has expressed his happiness for being the first Lagos state Governor to grace the final Head of Service Games since its interception in 2006.

While addressing the Public Servants at the grande final of the 2019 Head of Service, H.O.S, Games at the Agege stadium, Sanwo-Olu, said his administration took the Games seriously, hence the reason why yesterday's (Tuesday) State's Executive Council meeting was concluded early in order to allow some cabinet members to attend.

Governor Sanwo-olu, who sees sports as a permanent phenomenon which brings people together, said the 15th edition of the Games would be far better than previous edition, adding that his administration would continue to invest in sports.

The Governor, however, displayed beautiful soccer artistry when he performed the official kick-off ceremony.

Nigeria's Paralympic Team Promises Good Outing.

A member of the Nigeria Paralympic team for the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports(IWAS) Junior Games, David Ombugudu has promised that the team would do the nation proud at the end of the games. as the Nigerian team departs on Thursday for the Games  starting on Friday.
 
Omgbugudu who is one of two wheelchair athletes taking part in the games holding at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in the United Kingdom, said games would present a perfect stage for them to prove their worth to the rest of the world and to their country men and women in particular.
 
Ombugudu will be vying for honours in the Table Tennis event, while Emmanuel Godwin will participate in powerlifting.
 
Both athletes are under 23 polio survivors who are living testimonies that saying, 'there is the ability in disability.'
 
The Nigerian contingent will be led by Rotary International Polio Ambassador in Nigeria, and founder of Sir Emeka Offor Foundation, SEOF, sir Emeka Offor, who has made polio eradication his number one priority from not only in Nigeria but the remaining endemic countries.
 
He will be launching a new program called “Differently Able," during the IWAS Games as the programme will focus on assisting polio survivors in Nigeria.
 
SEOF has provided financial support opf two point six million naira  to the Nigerian Paralympic team to enable them to take at the 2014 IWAS Games.
 

 
 
 
 
 

 
 
  

International Olympic Committee To Honour Governor Fashola.

For his immense contribution to sports as well as to the ideals of Olympics value, Governor Babatunde Fashola will today be honoured by the International Olympic Committee.

According to the Secretary General, Nigeria Olympic Committee, N.O.C, Tunde Popoola, the choice of the governor was based on his enormous contribution to sports development in the country.

While explaining that the IOC trophy is usually presented to an outstanding individual, who has contributed immensely to sports in a particular country, Popoola, said the Governor had been chosen in Nigeria as the recipient of the trophy, which also marked the one hundred years of Modern Olympics.

The Governor’s support for sports especially grassroots sports development cannot be underestimated that at several occasions he had supported various sporting programmes.

The governor had also be honoured by Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) with a Long and Outstanding Contribution Award.

The trophy will be presented by the representative of IOC in Nigeria, Habu Gumel alongside the President of NOC, Sani Ndanusa.
