Despite failing to win the prestigious African Footballer Award in the just
concluded GLO- CAF Awards, Nigeria still confirmed its dominance in other
categories.
Nigeria won a total of six awards out of twelve categories of awards for this
year's edition.
Nigeria won the National Team of the Year Award courtesy of the Super
Eagles outstanding performance at the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa to make it the third Nigeria ever win the continental soccer mundial.
Super Eagles eased past Ethiopia and Burkina Faso to the African Cup of Nations .
Following its scintilating performance at the FIFA Under 17 World Cup where the team defeated Mexico, three - nil to win the tournament, Nigeria's Golden Eaglets was adjudged Youth National Team of the Year.
Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, was named Coach of the Year at the expense of compatriot Manu Garba and Burkina Faso head coach, Paul Put.
Eaglets star, Kelechi Iheanacho, who had sealed a deal with Manchester City won the Most Promising Talent as he beat Saleh Gomaa of Egypt and Ghanaian Ebenezer Assifuah to the award.
The Nigeria Supporters Club also picked up the Fair Play prize to complete an impressive night for Nigeria.
Nigeria President, Goodluck Jonathan was honoured with the Platinum Award for his support to the development of football in Africa’s most populous country.
