The Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development, MYSSD, is unperturbed by the nonchallant attitude of some states to poach its athletes ahead of the 19th National Sports Festival, in Calabar, Cross River State.
The state's commissioner for sports, Wahid Enitan Oshodi, while speaking with Sportsweight.blogspot.com, explained that his Minsitry would not stop any athletes from competing for another states since the basis for their mass deflection is based on money, stressing that the state government has been able to offer job opportunities to its athletes.
Oshodi, confirmed that Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, had empoyed three thousand, six hundred and eighty- five athletes into the mainstream of the state civil service, adding that the state has brighten the future of its athletes through the gesture.
On the just concluded Premier Lotto Lagos Athletics Championship, Oshodi, who commended the management of of Premier Lotto for supporting his Ministry concept on grassroot developemnt programme, said the secondary schools athletes meet had paved the way for the discovery of talents of which the best discovered athletes would participate in the six weeks training programme under the tutelage of Lee Evans and Tony Osheku.
He said George Magdalene who alongside Timothy Maduka were adjudged the championship Most Valuable Athletes,MVA, and Uzoro Ruth had improved significantly as their performance was far better than the records set at the maiden edition, adding that the forthcoming Lagos State Sports Festival would serve as an opportunity to assess them prior to the 19th National Sports Festival, in Calabar, Cross River State.
