As
part of our preparations for the Commonwealth Games, which will take place in
Glasgow, Scotland starting July this year, Nigeria will be participating in the
IAAF World Indoor Championship in Sopot, Poland, between March 7-9, 2014.
The Honourable Minister of Sports and Chairman
of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi who departs for
Poland today for the championship, noted that everything is being done to
ensure that Nigeria achieves unprecedented success at the Commonwealth Games.
Abdullahi
stated that he would use the opportunity of the trip to motivate Nigerian
athletes and officials. “ I am sure this championship will also provide the
coaches and officials of the federation a great opportunity to assess the team
and how prepared they are for the Commonwealth Games,” he said.
According
to him, the NSC is doing everything possible to make sure that the team is
adequately prepared for the games.
He recalled that the Commission hired
Nigeria’s first ever high performance director and a performance director for
athletics this year and has begun camping of athletes for the games.
