The deal according to the NBBF will span for a period of three year with an annual increment of twenty- five percent as the NBBF/ Zenith Bank Women League dunk -of on Monday at the Indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Surulere.
The deal was signed on Tuesday during the News conference held at the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria,SWAN, Secretariat, was far better than previous agreement as the agreement will have a yearly increment of twenty- five percent for a period of three years.
President, Nigeria Basketball Federation,NBBF, Tijani Umar, who sees the mutual agreement as a charitable avenue to empower the basketball players and also to improve the game, said the ten year old partnership between the NBBF and Zenith Bank which compelled the league sponsor to increase the sponsorship fee was because their outstanding successes recorded in recent time.
Umar, who acknowledged that the sponsorship fee of twenty- five million naira will bring positive impact on the women's league, said the gesture would help the Federation to re-package and add values to the league in a bid to attract basketball fans to match venues, stressing that the managerial and accountability skills of the Federation in managing the league encourage the bank to invest in the game.
The bank's Head of Research and Economic Itelligence Group, Marcel Okeke, said the contractual agreement of twenty- five million naira was part of the bank's policies to empower the youths who through the league have earned invitation to the national teams and also playing competitive tournaments in Europe and beyond.
Okeke, said the bank was pleased to be part of the success stories of the NBBF as he believed that their investment in the league would help the Federation to discover and nurture discovered basketball players to stardom.
