The duo of Bulus Jinkan and Ola Fagbemi, have attributed their defeat to the pour of Andres Malan and Viljoen Willen of South Africa in the final of Men’s Doubles of Lagos International Badminton classics to inability to train together as a team and lack of concentration.
Bulus Jinkan, Nigeria’s number one badminton player, who is based in Taraba state, said it was sad they were defeated by the South African badminton players whom he explained were not better than them technically but inability to be in the same camp for a long period of time ahead of the competition affected them.
Jinkan, who was not happy over the result, said the Nigeria Badminton Federation with the support of National Sports Commission, NSC, should endeavor to organize regular training camp for them where they would be under the tutelage of a reputable coach so as to make the nation proud at international tournaments, adding that their pour outing was as a result of poor preparation towards the event.
The badminton player, whose aspirations is to feature at the Olympic Games, said the needed to play at least twenty international competitions in order to garner points to qualify for the next Olympic Games, adding that Nigerian badminton players need the support of governments at all levels as well as corporate sponsors.
