Nigeria's table tennis players started their camping in the ongoing 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games on a good note as they won all their matches in the Women's and Men's Team preliminary events decided today the Scotstoun Table tennis centre.
Winner of the African top sixteen tournament hosted recently in Lagos, Aruna Quadri, proved to be a worthy African top rated ping ponger as he defeated Chowdhury Mnasah of Bangladesh by three straight set of 11- 1, 11- 3, 11- 7 to move to the next round.
Quadri's victory was an inspiration to other Nigerian male ping pongers as former African number one, Segun Toriola, who is the captain Team Nigeria to the Games also recorded victory against Billah Mahmub by three straight set of 11-8, 11- 3, 11- 7 while the duo of Aruna Quadri and Ojo Onaolapo dealt with Ahmed J and Billah Mahmub by three straight set of 11- 6, 11- 6, 11- 5.
In the Women's team event, Effiong Edem overwhelmed Kenya ping ponger, Shah Jnita Azad Kumar, 11- 3, 11-1, 11- 8 while the Ogundele's sisters were outstanding in their first matches in the Games as Rashidat Ogundele, a Gold medalist at the EKO 2012 National Sports Festival defeated Thakkar Sejal Dipan of Kenya, 11- 6, 11- 3, 11- 4.
The pairing of the Ogundele's sisters also resorted in a victory against the duo of Njani DM and Thakkar Soijal Dipan, 11- 4, 11- 3, 11- 6.
