Over 530 teams across Lagos State beat the registration deadline for the season seven of the MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship.
According to the breakdown, 272 teams registered for the Under 15 junior category with Lagos Island East having the highest number of teams, while 210 and 35 teams were confirmed respectively for the male (open) and female categories.
Registration for the Season seven cut across the five administrative divisions of the State with the active support of all the 57 LGs / LCDAs.Age verifications of the respective team were already concluded while players that did not satisfy set criteria were disqualified from participating in the tournament.
The Executive Secretary of the Local Organising Committee, LOC, Deji Aladegbemi, said the successful introduction of the under 15 Junior category and playing tour of South Africa by the winners courtesy the title sponsor, MTN Nigeria Telecommunications Ltd underscored increase in the number of registration so far across and outside the State for the 2014 edition.
While promising that the junior category will be more exciting and it will serve as unique platform for young talents to live their dreams, Aladegbemi, commended the fifty (57) Local Government Councils and stakeholders for their unflinching supports and assured that LOC are determined to take 2014 edition up a notch in every aspect.
The sponsor has also reaffirmed its commitment to the tournament as a veritable platform for youth development, engagement and talent discovery.
