Having
failed to represent Nigeria in any organised internatonal boxing
competition, a national boxing champion, Olaide Fijabi, has resolved to
join the league of Nigeria's professioal pugilists after the 2014
National Sports Festival, in Calaba, cross-River State.
Fijabi,
a lightwelter weight boxer, had a scintilating record of two National
Sports Festival Gold medalsand seven Gold medals fromnational boxing
championships.
The
boxer, who took interest in the Sport since 2005, said he was motivated
by Nigerian's ace professional boxer, Segun Ajose, who saw in him
abundant Skills and experience to elevate his Status by turning an elite
pugilist, Stressing that series of boxing promoters have been
approaching him with a
view of signing a contractual agreement.
He
said the selection of Waidi shogbamu for the 2014 Glasgow commonwealth
Games ahead of him was the choice of mNigeria Amateur Boxing
Association technical crew and he believed that he would have surpassed
shogbamu's feat at the Games based on his wealth of experience.
The
boxer, said lack of adequate preparation prior to the commonwealth
Games affected the boxers quest for honours as he called on the National
Spotrs Commission, NSC, to ensure that athletes are invited to camp
early and they are also expose to foreign training tour, adding that
the Nigeria Boxing Federation, NABA, should have put in place a well
structured training programmes which could earn its athletes Gold
medals.
