Twenty four and five countries will feature in this edition of Korea Ambassador Taekwondo Championship billed for Monday at the Indoor sportshall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.
The President of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, George Ashiru, who noted that the tournament is a special competition, said it was dsigned to bring Nigeria's and other top Taekwondoists from other countries to prepare Nigeria' Taekwondo team ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Ashiru, while speaking at the Sports Summit organised by the Redeemed Christain Church of Christ,RCCG, ahead of twenty- twenty Tokyo OLympic Games, advocated that each sports federations should endeavor to provide platform for athletes to train continuously in order to test their talents ahead of major international competitions.
He added each athlete needed to be competing in regular tournaments in order to be a good form aaand also to make the antion proud at major imternational competitons,adding that each sports federation should regularly engage its wards in competitions.
To produce a world class Taekwondoits like Chika Chukwumerije, Ashiru, said it would take the Natrional Sports Commission,NSC, a huge amount of money to be invested to produce a podium bound athletes at the Olympic Games,.
He added that NSC should not expect any of the sports federation to make water out of a rock, thus, the Commission must create an enabling environment for corporate bodies to invest heavily in sports.
