Cycology Riding Club,CRC, has concluded plans to organise the maiden edition of the Lagos Criterium which will commence on Monday, thirtieth of this month at the Eko Atlantic City.
The competition, which will attract seven professional cyclists from Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Kaduna and Plateau States is supported by the Lagos State Sports Commission,LSSC.
Its Captain, Ladipo Soetan, says the One point six kilometre course race will feature two hundred cyclists in four categories, Professionals and veterans in the male and female categories, adding that the tournament will encourage Lagosians to take to cycling as a professional or as a recreation sport.
While noting that Cycology Riding Club, is primarily set up to promote the sport, Soetan, says the tournament will also give some its members who do not have the opportunity to feature in international cycling tournaments to participate in a local competition which has attracted corporate bodies.
Ladipo Soetan, says the response from invited professional cyclists have been positive since they have been starved of enough competitions which deprieved them from exhibiting their skills, stressing that the event will give the professionals an avenue to participate in a tournament which will meet up with internationals standards.
He says the club, which is the premier recreational cycling club in Nigeria, was established in twenty- eleven by eight founding members, stressing that It was established to promote cycling both as a healthy lifestyle choice and as a sport.
Having been exposed to these international cycling events such as the Cape Argus Tour in Cape Town, South Africa, Gran Fondo in New York, Soetan, believe that the club can equally establish a professional cycling event in Nigeria which would support the nation's homegrown professional cyclists to continue to excel.
